About The Position

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented attorney with experience in regulatory, litigation, and contracts to assist with a variety of assignments related to major DOT initiatives and programs. The role involves investigating and responding to EEO complaints, managing a caseload of state and federal court complaints, and advising on accessibility issues. The attorney will also be responsible for drafting and reviewing legislation, rules, and agreements, conducting research, and assisting with other legal matters arising from agency operations. The position requires the ability to manage a high volume of matters under tight deadlines, with strong communication and prioritization skills.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Regulatory experience.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Contract experience.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of matters.
  • Ability to function under tight time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and respond to EEO complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including reviewing case merits through document review and employee interviews.
  • Submit responses to various administrative agencies such as CCHR, SDHR, or EEOC.
  • Manage a caseload of state and federal court complaints.
  • Oversee document production in response to discovery requests.
  • Participate in court mediations and settlements.
  • Work on projects related to accessibility issues, including the Pedestrian Ramp Program.
  • Advise DOT project teams on best practices to remove barriers to accessibility in services and programs.
  • Draft and review legislation and rules.
  • Draft and review various types of agreements.
  • Conduct research and policy reviews.
  • Assist in other legal assignments arising out of Agency operations.
