The Assistant General Counsel (AGC) will serve as a key member of the Legal Department, reporting to the General Counsel. This role impacts all dimensions of operating a large, distributed workforce across numerous states in a highly regulated, franchised industry. It is a hands-on, execution-oriented position within a fast-paced, multi-site, retail service organization. The AGC will initially focus on areas of strong prior background and develop into a more generalist role, supporting the GC within a lean legal staff. The position offers the opportunity to positively impact Human Resources, Marketing, IT, Facilities, Real Estate, and Operations. The AGC must possess strong generalist skills and the ability to provide legal advice, conduct research, draft policies, resolve disputes, negotiate, manage litigation, oversee outside counsel, handle compliance/safety affairs, and review/draft contracts under the direction of the General Counsel. The role may involve managing a portion of the litigation and disputes docket, including general liability, employment (wage/hour), products liability, and commercial litigation, in collaboration with outside counsel and insurance carriers. The AGC may also provide oversight of governance needs like annual report filings and corporate entity management. This role requires partnering with financial and accounting professionals concerning legal exposure and thriving in a lean environment. The ideal candidate will have a "yes" attitude towards new responsibilities, strong legal judgment, exceptional business acumen, and a practical, solutions-oriented mindset. The AGC must be a self-starter who takes initiative to support the GC, allowing the GC to focus on strategic matters and enabling the AGC to contribute more independently over time. Self-discipline is crucial to meet demands with follow-through. The AGC will be expected to personally draft, negotiate, investigate, and resolve matters efficiently and accurately, supporting growth, reducing risk, and strengthening decision-making across the enterprise. Strong candidates will exhibit a "can do" attitude with a high degree of independent judgment, attention to detail, and organizational skills, playing an impactful role within the Legal Department.
