About The Position

The Assistant Freshman Football Coach for Fall 2026 will be responsible for modeling the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, particularly concerning sportsmanship. This role involves having full control of the team in all coaching and athletic discipline matters, and implementing Peabody Athletic Department policies and team rules. The coach must be knowledgeable about the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the Peabody Athletic Handbook, staying current with rule changes, trends, and recommendations relevant to the sport. Responsibilities include attending all practice sessions and contests, developing and implementing organized daily practice plans with proper warm-up and cool-down procedures, and modeling professional and healthy behaviors through appearance, manners, language, and conduct. Ensuring the safety of facilities and equipment, teaching and enforcing safety procedures, and implementing game plans and game management are also key duties. The coach will process medical forms, parent consent forms, and eligibility reports, and work with community members involved in youth sports. Direct supervision of squad members at home and away contests, and supervision of all team members transported by school buses, are required.

Requirements

  • High School Level Football and/or High School Level coaching experience required
  • First Aid/CPR required
  • MIAA/NFHS Coaches Certification required

Responsibilities

  • Model the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.
  • Have full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.
  • Implement Peabody Athletic Department policies and team rules.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the Peabody Athletic Handbook.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport.
  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached.
  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures on a daily basis.
  • Model professional and healthy behaviors.
  • Lead by example in appearance, manners, language and conduct during practices/games.
  • Make sure that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas.
  • Perform all duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletic.
  • Implement game plans and game management.
