About The Position

The Assistant Foreman – Maintenance supports the Foreman and management team in coordinating daily maintenance operations within an assigned campus zone or skilled trades shop. This position provides frontline leadership to maintenance staff, assists with work order prioritization, monitors quality and safety, and serves as acting foreman in the absence of the Foreman. The Assistant Foreman is a working leader who combines technical skill with supervisory support to ensure university buildings, systems, and infrastructure are maintained in a safe, reliable, and customer-focused manner. This role helps drive productivity, accountability, business process alignment, and service excellence while supporting preventive maintenance and operational goals across campus. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in building maintenance, skilled trades, facilities operations, or related field
  • Leadership experience such as lead worker, crew leader, trainer, or acting supervisor
  • Experience with multiple building systems and maintenance practices
  • Experience with CMMS systems, email, and standard computer software
  • Valid driver’s license in good standings

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certificate, apprenticeship, or associate degree in a related field
  • Trade license or certification (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.)
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or institutional facilities
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience supervising union or multi-trade work crews
