About The Position

Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Missouri Valley Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. Drake Athletics sport programs are considered Des Moines’ Hometown Team. Drake Athletics is seeking an individual to serve as an assistant coach for the football program. This includes assisting with recruiting, practice sessions, game preparation and serving as a point of contact with all stakeholders. Incumbent must be dedicated to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes and promote the mission and values of Drake University and Drake Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • This position requires working nights/weekends, the ability to lift 50 pounds and the capability to work independently.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and must pass a background check.
  • Understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Missouri Valley Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Pioneer Football League and/or the Summit League and Drake University.

  • Design and implement effective training programs, practices, and game plans that maximize player development and team performance.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes able to thrive at Drake and on the field of play.
  • Support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes within the football program creating a culture of excellence and ethics.
  • Actively engage with alumni and the community to enhance program support and visibility.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication as it relates to internal (coaching staff, student-athletes, athletic staff) and external (fans, parents, alumni, prospects, campus community, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
