About The Position

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a full-time Assistant Fitness Instructor – Research Assistant I for the Liu lab, which focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals with advanced kidney disease. The primary responsibility of this role is to implement a virtually delivered group exercise program for Spanish or English-speaking individuals awaiting kidney transplants. The lab conducts up to ten virtual exercise classes weekly, and the candidate will ensure the safety of attendees during these sessions. Fluency in both Spanish and English is required. Additional duties include following up with participants post-medical events to assess their readiness to return to the study, data entry, scheduling study visits, managing participant information systems, assisting with regulatory and Institutional Review Board (IRB) document preparation and submission, participating in study monitoring visits and regulatory audits, and maintaining study supplies and equipment. This is a full-time, hybrid position with about 40% in-person duties, offering a unique opportunity to interact with individuals undergoing significant health events and provide a therapy to improve their health and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • Valid Driver License
  • 0-1 year or more of related experience
  • Must be conversant in Spanish and English
  • Basic Life Support training (will be provided if needed)

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in health-related field, such as physical therapy, exercise/fitness science, or recreation therapy
  • Previous experience in health care or wellness setting
  • Previous experience in a clinical and research environment
  • Good understanding of clinical terminology and procedures gained through experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring the safety of attendees of Liu lab virtual exercise classes.
  • Following up with participants after medical events to assess their readiness to rejoin the study.
  • Data entry of participant information
  • Assist with managing systems to organize, collect, report, and monitor participant information
  • Assist with preparation and submission of all regulatory and Institutional Review Board documents
  • Participate in study monitoring visits and regulatory audits.
  • Order and maintain adequate supplies of study materials and equipment.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
