About The Position

Scott Credit Union is hiring an Assistant Financial Accounting Manager in Edwardsville, IL to support our financial operations and help ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across the organization. The Assistant Financial Accounting Manager plays a key leadership role within the Accounting Department, overseeing daily accounting operations across two critical functional areas: Account Reconciliations and Accounts Payable. This role provides direct leadership to multiple Accounting Associates, ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supports timely financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and internal control standards. The Assistant Financial Accounting Manager partners closely with the Financial Accounting Manager and serves as a key contributor to departmental strategy, process improvement, and talent development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum of one-year supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation, reconciliation, and review of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts, including general ledger, bank, loan, and clearing accounts.
  • Direct the Accounts Payable function, including invoice processing, vendor maintenance, reimbursement and check runs, corporate card activity, and timely vendor payments.
  • Review and approve accounts payable and reimbursement runs to ensure accuracy, proper approvals, and compliance with internal policies.
  • Ensure accurate accruals, invoice tracking, and expense recognition in support of monthly financial reporting.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including variance analysis and reconciliation review.
  • Support preparation of regulatory and tax filings, including quarterly Call Reports and annual 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, controls, and efficiency through automation and standardization.
  • Act as a key backup to the Financial Accounting Manager, supporting continuity of operations and leadership coverage.
