About The Position

The Assistant Field Engineer is responsible for assisting in performing engineering duties including coordination, layout, quality control and monitoring utilized in the planning, and construction of our projects.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Surveying or a related field, or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ construction engineering experience
  • Proficient at reading and understanding contract drawings, including but not limited to both structural and architectural drawings, with the ability to cross-check between the two documents as needed
  • Decision making, research and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Time management with the ability to organize, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and to work independently
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization
  • Experience with related software applications
  • Experience working with total stations and handheld field controllers

Responsibilities

  • Performs building and site layout using standard surveying equipment, including total stations (manual and robotic), builder’s levels, laser levels, prisms, tribrachs, tripods, poles, and hand tools; establishes and maintains survey control, benchmarks, and control points; verify accuracy through backsight and resection setups and coordinate checks using data collectors
  • Applies field computations, unit conversions, and basic plane geometry and trigonometry to support layout, elevation verification, benchmark transfers, and coordinate determination; assists with survey control installation, elevation monitoring, and proper field book documentation.
  • Maintains and updates project documentation, including posting drawing revisions, tracking design changes, documenting as-built field conditions, and assisting with the development and maintenance of layout control sheets
  • Utilizes surveying, engineering, and construction software, including CAD and AutoCAD 3D, modeling tools, point creation and data collection software, Procore, Bluebeam (editing), and Microsoft Office applications to support field operations, coordination, and reporting
  • Assists with quality control inspections and verification of installed work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, tolerances, and contract requirements; monitors trade partner layout and survey-related performance
  • Maintains organized and accurate field records, including daily reports, field notes, sketches, logs, and field books or electronic equivalents; ensures survey equipment and office files are kept clean and properly organized
  • Interprets construction drawings and specifications; reviews shop drawings and submittals for coordination and consistency with contract documents, including embeds, anchor bolts, stair rails, and miscellaneous metals
  • Tracks, maintains, and organizes survey equipment and field engineering supplies to ensure availability and proper condition for project needs
  • Learns and applies company engineering standards, construction best practices, and safety procedures; develops foundational knowledge of shoring and excavation (SOE), foundations, concrete and steel structures, adjacent building monitoring, MEP in-slab coordination, vertical benchmark transfers, wood framing tie-downs, and sitework elements such as curbs, sidewalks, walls, and site utilities
  • Collaborates effectively with internal teams and trade partners to support efficient field operations, coordination, and a strong team-oriented culture
