About The Position

Pleasant View Communities is a Life Plan Community located in Manheim, Pa. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Assistant Farm Manager to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining our farm operations, including hydroponics, crop systems, poultry, and livestock. You will work closely with the Farm Manager and community partners to ensure high-quality production and assist in the development and management of volunteer programs. This is a full-time position with a focus on resident-centered care and team happiness.

Requirements

  • High School graduate with hands-on education in farming programs.
  • Previous agriculture experience with farming and animal production.
  • Ability to work with others and teams to complete projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of a computerized tracking system for plant production in hydroponics and crop systems, as well as poultry and livestock maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Farm Manager and community partners (e.g., Central Pennsylvania Food Bank) on crop planning and field production, including high tunnel production.
  • Assist in the implementation of volunteer programs with the Volunteer Coordinator for Pleasant View residents, One Life Ministries, and community volunteers to manage operating costs.
  • Assist in scheduling, educating, and managing volunteers, defining tasks, procedures, ensuring safety, and setting quality benchmarks (e.g., seeding, monitoring plant growth, feeding, harvesting, delivery, cleaning, and sanitization).
  • Ensure all farm and animal procedures are followed in accordance with established policies and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure poultry and livestock maintenance for health and well-being.
  • Stay informed about new information and education in all areas of the farm program, including hydroponics, high tunnels, crop and animal production, and animal therapy.
  • Serve as a resource for grounds/facilities development, including edible landscaping in non-farm areas of the campus (e.g., Plant wall, Garden Club).
  • Coordinate Hoffer Farm events on and off campus, working with the Farm Manager to develop a strategy for effective scheduling.
