About The Position

Join the City of Stockton's Municipal Utilities Department and help shape the future of our community's essential infrastructure. The City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to perform a variety of professional engineering duties related to the planning, design, and construction of public works and utility infrastructure projects. Under the general supervision of a Senior or Associate Civil Engineer, the Assistant Engineer will be responsible for a variety of engineering assignments associated with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of municipal utility facilities and public works projects. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience related to: Distribution and treatment of drinking water, Collection and treatment of sanitary sewer systems, Collection and conveyance of stormwater systems, Engineering design and construction management practices, Public infrastructure planning and development. Knowledge of sewer pump stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plant processes is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field, or possession of a valid California registration as a Licensed Land Surveyor
  • Two (2) years of engineering experience in design, development review, construction, or traffic planning or operations
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of sewer pump stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plant processes is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, design, and construction of utility and public works projects
  • Prepare engineering studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Review engineering calculations and technical documents
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and City staff
  • Conduct field inspections and evaluate project progress
  • Support the delivery of critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure improvements
  • Performs a variety of professional engineering or surveying field and office work of a routine to complex nature, including development review, design and/or inspection of public works projects, and design and modification of traffic control devices
  • May develop recommendations for coordinating traffic improvement projects
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Benefits

  • Flexible 9/80 work schedule consisting of nine-hour workdays Monday through Thursday, and eight hours every other Friday, with alternating Fridays off.
  • Work hours may be adjusted with supervisory approval.
