The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) seeks qualified, motivated, and innovative individuals for one Assistant Engineer position to support the Wastewater Department’s Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in the Control Systems Management Section (CSMS). Assistant Engineer is the second-level position in the professional engineering series, reporting to a Senior Electrical Engineer, and which may include direction of lower-level engineers or technical staff in specific project areas. The ideal Assistant Engineer candidate will possess some of the following: Industrial electrical and control engineering work experience. Knowledge of up-to-date and/or legacy power, instrumentation, and control systems. Experience working collaboratively to provide timely and efficient service and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Application development/troubleshooting capabilities with distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), operator interface terminals (OIT), and network equipment. EBMUD also offers excellent preparation for professional registration and stable career opportunities. All assignments are under the direct supervision of registered engineers and provide qualifying experience for professional registration. With further experience and registration, incumbents may qualify to compete for promotions to Associate Control Systems Engineer ($161,412 - $196,200 annually) or Associate Electrical Engineer ($161,412 - $196,200 annually). The incumbents will work at EBMUD’s Wastewater Treatment Plant located in Oakland, CA. Control System Management Section (CSMS) – Wastewater Division The Wastewater Control System Management Section is part of EBMUD’s Wastewater Department Treatment Division. The Wastewater Department owns and operates the nation’s first municipal wastewater plant that is a net-energy producer, with a 10.5-megawatt, biogas-fueled, power generation station. EBMUD is underway with an extensive capital improvement program that includes conversion of the existing secondary treatment process to a biological nutrient removal process capable of seasonal and reliable nutrient reduction. EBMUD’s Wastewater Treatment Plant treats on average over 50 million gallons per day, helping to protect the San Francisco Bay. The Wastewater Department also produces approximately 8 million gallons per day of recycled water for reuse, with treatment facilities including reverse osmosis membrane technology. CSMS is responsible for providing control system and communication support to the main wastewater treatment plant, remote pumping plants, wet weather facilities and recycled water facilities. The salary range is ($11,885) per month increasing to ($12,479, $13,103, $13,758 and $14,446) after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.
