About The Position

Upper Canada Child Care is recruiting an Assistant Educator for a Full-Time Supply Position in Richmond Hill at MacLeod's Landing PS. This role is to fill an existing vacancy and requires availability for split shifts (morning and afternoon) in Before & After School programs or a full day (8-hour shift) Monday-Friday. Upper Canada Child Care, a non-profit licensed provider since 1983, operates over 85 centers and offers various programs including full-day, before and after school, summer camps, and forest school. They are committed to play-based learning, outdoor exploration, and professional development for their educators.

Requirements

  • A recent Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
  • Basic knowledge of the developmental needs of children and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers, and other professionals.
  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with all Ministry and organizational guidelines.
  • Deliver a developmentally appropriate, play-based program by applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education.
  • Support the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values.
  • Apply current legislative expectations to support a program consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Engage with children and provide a positive learning experience, including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, and dressing.
  • Foster engagement and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
  • Complete program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administrative tasks.
  • Use Storypark for pedagogical documentation to guide program development.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to support children's needs.
  • Provide guidance to students and volunteers.
  • Identify children needing additional support and guide parents through accessing resources.
  • Help design and implement individual support plans as required.
