The Washington Post is seeking a collaborative and deadline-driven assistant editor for its News Hub through October 31. This contract role is an opportunity to work with a team of breaking news reporters and coverage leaders to ensure we are urgent and indispensable on the most important stories of the day. This position will work four days per week (Monday-Friday), with scheduled hours of 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Eastern Time. We are looking for a well-rounded journalist with excellent news judgment who has demonstrated an ability to identify the top storylines of the day and edit quick-turn stories. The ideal candidate will have experience in breaking news and be prepared to serve as the tip of the spear for real-time coverage during major U.S. breaking news, including natural disasters and mass casualty events. This editor will work with reporters across a range of storytelling formats, including live, explanatory and visual-first journalism. This collaborative role requires someone who is precise, organized and communicative, with a passion for understanding audiences. This contract position can either be based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom or performed remotely from another location in the U.S.
