About The Position

The District Attorney’s Office for the 23rd Prosecutorial District is seeking resumes for the position of Assistant District Attorney. The open positions are located in the Shawnee, Pottawatomie County Office or the Chandler, Lincoln County Office and will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to prosecute a wide range of criminal offenses, to include but not limited to: drug crimes, violent crimes of all types, and homicide cases. The Office takes an aggressive approach to prosecution and the protection of our community.
The successful candidate can expect to be challenged daily by advocating on behalf of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, our children, elderly, and other victims of crime. Requirements

• A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Oklahoma bar admission, eligibility for Oklahoma bar admission, or pending Oklahoma bar results.
• Possess excellent oral advocacy, legal analysis and legal writing and editing skills.
• Display strong organizational, interpersonal communication, problem solving and teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of applicable state and federal statutes and regulations; constitutional law and the Oklahoma constitution; regulatory policies and procedures; trial and hearing procedures; rules of evidence; various techniques for conducting investigations; methods and techniques for performing legal research; and communication, both oral and written.
• Keep abreast of court decisions and legislation affecting Oklahoma law and prepare written memoranda where appropriate.
• Understand applicable rules, laws, and guidelines, including the mandates of the Victims’ Bill of Rights.
• Self-starter with the following attributes: sharp attention to detail, ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, ability to contribute and work as part of a team, positive attitude, and willingness to learn new processes and adapt to new guidelines as needed
• Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Represent the State of Oklahoma at all stages of criminal prosecution in Court for cases in Lincoln and Pottawatomie County.
• Handling arraignments and corresponding motions
• Conducting pre-trial hearings, conferences and litigating evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions such as motions for discovery and motions to suppress.
• Handling trials (bench and jury) as lead counsel, including trials transferred from other locations for jury trial.
• Work closely with colleagues, multi-disciplinary teams, victim witness advocates, law enforcement, court personnel, defense attorneys, criminal justice agencies, community partners, and the public to ensure successful, holistic approach to prosecution that balances the safety and well-being of the victims and communities we serve.
• Review charging decisions made by law enforcement agencies to make appropriate recommendations and changes as needed.
• Meet with victim families, direct investigatory efforts, partner on forensic interviews and provide updates to the District Attorney, Juvenile Defense Attorneys, OJA, DHS, and other supervising ADAs or partnering agencies as needed or requested.
• Review evidentiary reports, identify, and interview victims and witnesses, prepare discovery, and provide discovery to defense counsel.
• Review case files, applicable statutes and case law, victim information and input, and determine an appropriate recommendation for case resolution. Conference the same with defense counsel.
