About The Position

The Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has immediate openings for Entry Level and Experienced Criminal Prosecutors. This role involves representing the State of Texas in all matters handled by the Criminal District Attorney’s Office, attending court settings and hearings, and efficiently managing a caseload in a fast-paced and rewarding work environment. Responsibilities include corresponding with law enforcement officers, victims, witnesses, judges, and other attorneys, as well as preparing criminal cases for trial. This preparation involves gathering and reviewing evidence, locating and interviewing victims and witnesses, interviewing police officers, visiting crime scenes, planning jury trials, and reviewing case law. The position also requires prosecuting criminal trials, which includes selecting juries, making opening statements, questioning witnesses, introducing evidence, and making arguments before both judges and juries. Additionally, the role involves reviewing and interpreting both simple and complex legal issues and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public.

Requirements

  • Applicant must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Applicant must be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, and must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Applicant must have a clean criminal history.
  • Must possess excellent research and writing skills.
  • Must possess a strong ability to communicate and get along with others.
  • Must possess sufficient common sense and legal skills combined to make important legal decisions on complex issues.
  • Need to have basic computer and typing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Prosecute criminal trials, select juries, make opening statements, question witnesses, introduce evidence, and make arguments before both judges and juries.
  • Review and interpret both simple and complex legal issues.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public.
