About The Position

An Assistant District Attorney (ADA) represents the Commonwealth in accordance with the District Attorney’s statutory authority, is an employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and serves at the pleasure of the District Attorney. ADAs may be assigned from time-to-time to any District Court within the Middle District.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and license to practice in Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the Commonwealth at all stages of criminal prosecution in District Court, including but not limited to handling all aspects of arraignments; pre-trial hearings and conferences; evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions; discovery; pleas; bench and jury trials, etc.
  • Works closely with colleagues, victim witness advocates, law enforcement, court personnel, the defense bar, community partners and the public to promote public safety, seek justice and the safety and well-being of victims, defendants, and the communities the DA serves.
  • Keeps abreast of court decisions and legislation affecting Massachusetts law.
  • Understands applicable rules, laws, and guidelines, including the Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct, the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence, and the mandates of the Victims Bill of Rights.
  • Interacts with victims, attorneys, families, and witnesses with kindness and professionalism.
  • Has the ability to manage crises and excel in high-stress, dynamic, and fast-paced environments while exhibiting a calm, professional demeanor.
