About The Position

The Hampden District Attorney’s Office seeks applicants for the position of Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Unit. This role involves arguing precedent-setting matters routinely in the Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court. The office is seeking candidates of all experience levels for this unit. The mission of the Hampden District Attorney’s Office is to serve the people of Hampden County by faithfully pursuing criminal justice and ensuring public safety with ethics, integrity, and fairness as guiding values.

Requirements

  • Law school graduate from an accredited law school (Juris Doctorate Degree)
  • Superior research and writing skills
  • Strong communication, research, writing, and computer skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook)
  • Familiar with and to follow the provisions of the Hampden District Attorney's Office Personnel Policies
  • Familiar with and adhere to the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Participate in trainings relevant to Office functions
  • Interact in a respectful and professional manner with the public, judicial, law enforcement personnel, and office staff
  • Complete work assignments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner

Nice To Haves

  • Prior clerkship or law review experience is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Research, draft, file, and argue complex and high-profile appellate cases in the SJC and Appeals Court
  • Research, draft, file, and argue post-conviction matters in the superior, district and juvenile courts
  • Provide legal advice to other assistant district attorneys in the office
  • Second-chair homicide cases
