About The Position

The Autism Society of North Carolina is seeking a full-time Assistant Director for their Social Recreation program in Winterville, NC. This role is crucial for supporting autistic individuals by planning and facilitating inclusive social recreation activities and group programs. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for training, supervising, and supporting program staff, managing program operations and documentation, and ensuring safe and compliant program delivery according to policies, procedures, and regulations. Collaboration with families, residential programs, and other professionals is key to supporting participant success and continuity of care. The position requires hands-on program support and a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree related to developmental disabilities, education, social work, or related field
  • Based in or near the Winterville area
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years' experience with Autism and/or Intellectual /Developmental Disabilities strongly preferred
  • Experience supervising part time staff or volunteers strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate inclusive social recreation activities and group programs for participants.
  • Train, supervise, and support year‑round program staff, providing ongoing feedback and leadership.
  • Manage program operations and documentation, including personnel and participant records, scheduling, budgeting support, insurance, and workers’ compensation coordination.
  • Ensure safe, compliant program delivery by enforcing policies and procedures and maintaining commitment to CQL basic assurances of health and safety and all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate and communicate with families, residential programs, and other professionals to support participant success and continuity of care.
  • Provide hands‑on program support, including staff coordination, check‑in and pick‑up, and assisting with program photography/video as needed, while working a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
