About The Position

Goodwin University Magnet School System is seeking an Assistant Director of Riverside Magnet School. The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director with all aspects of the Riverside Magnet School, a growing early childhood and elementary school located in East Hartford, CT. The Assistant Director will be evaluated through the GUMSS administrator evaluation process and will be directly responsible to the Director of Riverside Magnet School. This position is full time (12 month) with a competitive salary and fringe benefit package. EOE

Requirements

  • Intermediate Administrative Certification (092)
  • At least 5 years experience in Early Childhood Education and/or Elementary Education
  • Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach
  • Proven ability to work effectively with staff and parents to enhance the learning community

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a building administrator preferred
  • Experience in an urban setting preferred
  • Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission and vision of the school with the whole school community.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations and standards for student learning and behavior.
  • Provide instructional leadership and assist in the development of curriculum, instructional programs and materials.
  • Utilize student achievement data from formative and summative assessments as well as standardized tests and other appropriate measures to inform instructional decision-making.
  • Utilize culture and climate data to inform systemic actions and supports.
  • Collaborate to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community.
  • Partner in supervising school safety, while using community resources.
  • Communicate effectively with families to ensure that diverse community interests are called upon and have impact on the school.
  • Nurture and maintain open communications and positive student attitudes; respects the dignity and worth of staff and students; contributes to a positive school environment.
  • Assist in the direction, supervision and evaluation of professional, paraprofessional and support staff.
  • Collaborate in the planning and delivery of in-service programs; encourage and direct attendance at professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection and recommendation of staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment of new students on an ongoing basis.
  • Work closely with the principal in the preparation and monitoring of the budget and resources related to the school.
  • Contribute to the GUMSS leadership team and its responsibilities.
  • Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned by the Director or Superintendent.
