About The Position

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, mission-aligned Assistant Director to join Community Pride. This role involves breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive programming that builds opportunities for children and families. Community Pride is a resident-driven program focused on neighborhood revitalization, leadership development, advocacy, and economic stability. The Assistant Director will drive daily operations, meet short-term goals, and increase productivity in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for HCZ's mission, understand Harlem culture, possess strong project management skills, and have proven community organizing expertise. The Assistant Director will report directly to the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3+ years (5+ years preferred) of direct supervisory and program management experience in community building/engagement/organizing/advocacy or related fields is required.
  • Excellent communication, detail-oriented, strategic planning, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and Outlook.
  • Prior experience with budget management (e.g., balancing budgets, spending proposals, cost analysis, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks independently.
  • Experience working with community groups and community-based organizations.
  • Networking experience, community building.
  • Familiarity with the Harlem Community, related service providers, and challenges prevalent in underserved communities of color.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Open to working with a diverse population of families, parents/caregivers, and children within the community.
  • Highly collaborative, customer service–focused, and dedicated to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Salesforce/data management systems is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English/French is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of a team, including managers and community organizers, to ensure efficient delivery of community and program services.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of community-driven initiatives, workshops, events, and activities.
  • Develop and implement programs supporting community organizing, leadership development, community outreach, and neighborhood revitalization.
  • Schedule and manage local community outreach, including door-knocking and telephone campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the program director to create, plan, and execute the department's mission and vision.
  • Support the program director in managing organization-wide events and activities.
  • Assist the program director in developing and executing program strategies and processes, including direct services for residents.
  • Foster strong relationships and effective communications with staff, HCZ leadership, and local community stakeholders.
  • Attend and participate in community, block, and tenant association meetings and events.
  • Ensure all data and information are correctly tracked, reported, and updated promptly.
  • Oversee, develop, and manage the CYC Community Youth Connections to increase scholar participation.
  • Establish partnerships with local businesses to serve as vendors for the program.
  • Manage stipends.
  • Recruit local volunteers for activities, including community advisory boards and resident meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
