About The Position

Reporting to the Director of University Career Services, the Assistant Director of University Career Services delivers workshops, seminars, and presentations on career-related topics to audiences on and off campus and is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive career services for East Tennessee State University (ETSU) students and alumni. The Assistant Director may serve as a generalist, providing career related support and resources across the university or may be assigned to work with a specific college or academic program. The Assistant Director offers individualized coaching sessions by appointment, during which they provide personalized advice, guidance and the necessary tools to help students and alumni identify and achieve their career goals. As assigned, the Assistant Director collaborates directly with various student affairs units to ensure seamless delivery of career services. The Assistant Director provides broad oversight of the UCS website, online resources, and technology; conducts assessments of UCS services and outcomes; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three or more years’ experience in any of the following fields: education, counseling, workforce services, community relations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the career development process, especially as it relates to higher education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in career development in higher education.
  • Knowledge of skills, aptitudes, and education associated with numerous careers.
  • Knowledge of regional and national job markets and trends.
  • Knowledge of web design, career technology platforms, and online resources.
  • Ability to counsel students and alumni regarding career interests, career readiness, job searches, and steps on the path to career attainment.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective training programs related to career services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to manage, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience.
