About The Position

Under the supervision of the Beacon Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for all phases of successful and safe operation of Beacon Programming as well as adherence to the standards and polices set by the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Department of Health, the Department of Education and Graham-Windham. In the absence of the Beacon Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for supervision of all program personnel, program participants and program areas.

Requirements

  • The Assistant Director should be motivated, a team player, solution oriented, with strong verbal and written communication skills, and possess a fervent desire to partner with children and families in community.
  • The Assistant Director should be adaptable, have a proven record of accomplishment of leading teams with positive program outcomes.
  • The Assistant Director must possess the ability to organize activities, maintain compliance documentation and records for funders and regulatory agencies.
  • The Assistant Director must have a firm understanding of child development and experience working within a school age childcare setting, in addition to previous experience leading meetings with youth, families, staff and community stakeholders.
  • The Assistant Director must obtain and maintain up to date American Red Cross; CPR and First Aid certifications as well as annually mandated OCFS trainings.
  • Additionally, the NYS School Age Child Care or (SAC) Credential is required by DOH and must obtained within 2 years after hire.
  • Associate degree Preferred
  • Minimum of at least 2 years of experience in working with youth and families in a School Aged Child Care setting.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain the NYS School Aged Childcare Credential
  • High School Diploma Required

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-going coaching and development of staff members including formal mid-year and end-of-year evaluations for all direct reports.
  • Expected to attend mandatory staff training and staff meetings throughout the year.
  • Maintain a highly visible presence throughout all areas of programming.
  • Assist the Beacon Director in the supervision and quality assurance of all “on-the –ground” program delivery.
  • Plan and organize the daily program activities and oversee the implementation of daily schedules and lesson plans.
  • Facilitate regular supervision conferences both individually and in groups with direct reports.
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of program personnel.
  • Lead in the planning and execution of program events and initiatives.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with program participants, staff, parents, host school staff and community stakeholders.
  • Team with Beacon Director to create a positive work environment where both staff, students and families are celebrated.
  • Helps to maintain records of program data including i.e. attendance, fiscal, compliance etc.
  • Assist Beacon Director to prepare and submit reports around program performance data and outcomes, including but not limited to the submission of annual “DYCD Workscope”.
  • Execution of administrative tasks to include utilizing Graham Windham ordering and requisition systems.
  • Responsible for facilitating Parent Advisory Board meetings monthly as well as other parent and community engagement activities.
