About The Position

The Assistant Director at Hillel at FSU is responsible for overseeing all of the student-facing services— supervising relevant staff, collaborating with other team roles, mentoring student leaders and actively engaging new and returning students. This position will also support fundraising and marketing efforts, especially through grassroots fundraising via relationships with parents and alumni. The right person for this Assistant Director role will bring passion and commitment to their work, an ability to lead independently, as well as, partner with the Executive Director and team to execute a bold vision and strategic plan for Hillel at FSU.

Requirements

  • Dedicated not-for-profit professional with 6+ years of experience.
  • Comfortable and/or willing to ensconce yourself in Jewish communal settings.
  • Comfortable working with diverse students across various levels of observance and belief systems.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and leading Jewish educational programming.
  • Comfortable with the Microsoft suite, G-suite, budgeting software, and databases.
  • Experience with or a willingness to quickly adopt cloud-based, project management, and other enterprise software.
  • Able to learn new database systems, with concern for detail in maintaining those systems.
  • Enthusiasm shines through in everything you do.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with QuickBooks.
  • Experience with data entry, bookkeeping, and/or building management.
  • Experience with grant management and/or fundraising.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and grow the engagement team (3 current positions) in expanding the reach of Hillel to meet the social, spiritual and wellness needs of 4,000 Jewish Seminoles.
  • Supervise the Operations Manager and all aspects of facility operations to ensure that building upkeep, event coordination, supply chain and student operations interns are managed to high standards.
  • Use best-in-class supervision and personnel review methods to create and maintain productive and trusting relationships with Springboard Fellow, Engagement Coordinator, Operations Manager and Israel Fellow to model Empathic Leadership and develop career-focused Jewish Professionals.
  • Participate in annual budget planning, staff/team development and organizational strategic planning as part of a leadership team that includes: Executive Director, Campus Engagement Rabbi, Director of Leadership and Wellness and Development Manager.
  • Lead an annual evaluation to improve the Hillel at FSU Engagement Plan in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Prepare data-informed engagement reports to present at weekly staff meetings and occasional board meetings.
  • Participate in recruitment and hiring panels as needed to maintain staffing and contribute to a Jewish professional pipeline.
  • Build and maintain relationships across Florida State University, the array of international Hillels and the ecosystem of Jewish organizations engaging on college campuses.
  • Prioritize and take advantage of professional development opportunities to continue an emphasis on excellence at Hillel at FSU and invest in your professional growth.
  • Travel occasionally for conferences, student immersive learning opportunities and professional development.
  • Consider, apply for and manage grant opportunities that advance the mission of Hillel at FSU.
  • Mentor student leaders as they grow Hillel at FSU’s inclusive and pluralistic Jewish community through genuine engagement, empathic leadership skill building, creative processing and vision implementation.
  • In partnership with the Director of Leadership and Wellness, work directly with student board members to steer and evolve the student leadership program towards refined skill building and practice that will advance student careers and bolster Jewish communities, organizations and priorities globally.
