About The Position

This role provides leadership on recruitment outreach activities, program marketing, and student support services for teacher education programs. The Assistant Director will collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure students meet state requirements for certification and endorsement, manage admissions processing, and oversee data administration and program support. This position also serves as a liaison for certification functions with state agencies and supports collaborative efforts with other college offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of experience in academic advising or student services, or closely related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership on recruitment outreach activities, including developing and implementing a recruitment plan with attention to equity and enrollment goals.
  • Collaborate on developing recruitment materials and identifying prospective student sources.
  • Coordinate dissemination of promotional and recruiting materials and manage program website and social media content.
  • Represent teacher education programs at recruitment events and information sessions.
  • Communicate with and counsel prospective and newly admitted students on admissions, program requirements, financial aid, and enrollment.
  • Track initial inquiries and arrange for follow-up.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with recruitment sources, focusing on underrepresented populations.
  • Work with staff to develop program presence on social media platforms.
  • Coordinate state requirements and approaches for endorsement preparation with students.
  • Evaluate academic preparation of applicants through transcript review and advising.
  • Assist students with identifying and obtaining financial aid and scholarships.
  • Update and maintain advising materials, including program catalog, entrance testing requirements, and application checklists.
  • Organize the MiT Hooding Ceremony and related subcommittees and services.
  • Assist with the development of program newsletters.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Act as liaison to state agencies (OSPI and PESB) on educator certification.
  • Investigate, analyze, and implement state and federal regulations governing teacher certification.
  • Develop systems for coordinating and sharing certification information.
  • Assist the program Director with maintaining program accreditation.
  • Advise students, faculty, educators, and school partners on certification and endorsement requirements.
  • Counsel candidates with arrest records or criminal history on clearance procedures.
  • Consult with faculty on certification and program approval changes impacting curricular offerings.
  • Consult with other campus areas on the nature of teacher education programs.
  • Participate in planning and presenting at program PESB meetings.
  • Supervise the application process and prepare preliminary assessments of applicants' eligibility.
  • Participate on Admissions committees and notify relevant offices of decisions.
  • Help design and implement interview days for applicants.
  • Prepare individualized admissions letters and follow up with conditionally admitted students.
  • Prepare workshops for students on endorsement and certification processes.
  • Complete the recommendation for certification process with OSPI for graduates.
  • Provide student support from admission to program exit.
  • Design and administer annual surveys for program improvement and reporting.
  • Assist the Director in gathering, aggregating, and disseminating data for program improvement and external reporting.
  • Coordinate data collection and reporting with other college departments.
  • Track and maintain state-required electronic databases on program information.
  • Maintain currency on evolving requirements for state and federal electronic data tracking and reporting.
  • Assist in regular program evaluations, production of annual reports, and updating handbooks.
  • Ensure consistent and high-quality operation of the Teacher Education Programs, including administrative duties.
  • Represent the Director at meetings as requested.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as the primary contact for collaborative efforts with other college offices relevant to recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in quarterly meetings with staff from other graduate programs and relevant offices.
  • Assist and work with Institutional Research regarding managing and tracking performance/evaluation data.
  • Serve on appropriate internal and external committees or other projects.
