About The Position

The Student Success division at the University of South Florida is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Student Success Center (SSC) at the St. Petersburg campus is part of Undergraduate Studies and a partner to the Academic Success Center (ASC) and SMART Lab at the Tampa campus. The Assistant Director of the Student Success Center (SSC), provides operational and supervisory leadership for academic support services such as tutoring, embedded, tutoring, and supplemental instruction to support student learning, persistence, and first-year academic success on the USF St. Petersburg campus. The position supervises professional and student staff and supports institutional goals and metrics related to student retention, persistence, and completion with a focus on first-year academic success. This position will require some flexible work hours, including evening or weekend as needed, to support student needs and program operations. The Assistant Director of the Student Success Center (SSC) on the St. Petersburg Campus provides operational and supervisory leadership for a wide scope of academic support services.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of tutoring, academic coaching, and learning support programs within the SSC.
  • Supervise professional and student staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation.
  • Serve as the acting director in absence of the Director, providing leadership, decision-making, and support for SSC staff and programs.
  • Direct the design, implementation, and assessment of SSC academic support services and program, which may include embedded tutoring, supplemental instruction, and Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) programs.
  • Coordinate outreach activities and initiatives that support first-year success, persistence, and progression. Collaborate with campus partners to improve first-to-second year retention and Academic Progress Rate (APR) outcomes.
  • Use data to identify students at risk of academic difficulty and develop responsive academic support strategies. Contribute to institutional goals connected to Florida Board of Governors performance metrics.
  • Recruit, hire, and train student leaders, ensuring alignment with national best practices and standards.
  • Strengthen partnerships with faculty, advisors, and Student Success to promote a campus-wide culture of learning support. Represent the SSC in committees, presentations, and campus initiatives.
  • Contribute to training and development programs that enhance the quality of peer-led learning across the university.
  • Analyze and report program outcomes for decision-making and continuous improvement. Collaborate with Undergraduate Studies and assessment teams on data collection and reporting processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
