About The Position

The Assistant Director in Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO) within the Office of Student Academic Success manages the learning and instruction specifically around strategies for academic success for the under prepared and underrepresented student-athletes. Identifies student-athletes skill set for college level work. Designs and implements strategic instructional plans for student-athletes under-prepared for college. Engages in small groups and individuals in implementation of instructional plans. Analyzes effectiveness of program and recommends improvements, directs implementations and coordinates new strategies to ensure continuous improvement. Develops and implements learning interventions and study strategies in the areas of time management, critical thinking, reading and writing, taking notes, test taking, etc. Works from a developmental perspective, meeting the student where they are, recognizing the needs of each student, and working with a problem solving focus. Collaborates with educational services team members to create programming that will aid in the preparation for exams. This includes but is not limited to review and prep sessions for a variety of courses, trainings for tutors and other SASSO initiatives/projects. This position is focused on the holistic development of a student-athlete's well-being: personal, academic, involvement, and professional development. The Assistant Director manages a team of full time staff members. Manages and creates professional development opportunities for SASSO staff. Manages a caseload of student-athletes on a daily basis, including coaching, feedback and addresses performance concerns as needed. Performs other SASSO special projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
  • Five (5) years experience required.
  • Experience with postsecondary students.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Eight to twelve (8-12) years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCAA, Big Ten Conference and OSU rules and regulations.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience advising/tutoring/mentoring collegiate student-athletes or previous experience teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Experience developing and motivating students for athletic and academic success.

  • The pay range for this job profile is $58,700 - $74,000.
