About The Position

Saint Louis University (SLU), a prestigious Catholic university founded in 1818, is seeking an Assistant Director of Residence Life. This role involves leading project planning and implementation within a specific functional area, managing data communication with stakeholders, collaborating with internal and external partners, and responding to student needs through an on-call structure. This is a live-off position within the Department of Residence Life.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and implementation of projects in the functional area.
  • Organize and communicate data with various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Respond to student needs by serving in the on-call structure.
  • Collect, track, and analyze data related to student success, retention, and persistence for residential life, focusing on first-year, first-generation, and underrepresented students.
  • Coordinate Learning Community faculty recruitment and onboarding.
  • Support building staff in the supervision and planning of Learning Communities, including specialized training and guidance.
  • Collaborate with University partners to identify and construct appropriate Learning Community course sections and manage course registration.
  • Manage the Learning Community recruitment, application, and assignment process.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment, selection, and training plan for Resident Advisors (RAs).
  • Create and organize ongoing RA professional development and continuing education.
  • Collaborate with the Assessment Committee to assess and apply data to improve RA recruitment, selection, training, and development.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Residence Life in planning and implementing professional staff recruitment and training.
  • Communicate elements of the functional area with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organize resources to plan complex processes with overlapping timelines.
  • Create marketing materials for the functional area in collaboration with the Housing Operations Assistant Director of Assignments and Marketing.
  • Schedule meetings, reserve spaces, create agendas, and lead meetings for the functional area, committees, and the Residence Life department.
  • Manage program budgets for the functional area and committee purchases.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with the Housing and Residence Life team and other campus partners.
  • Participate in strategic planning of the department, division, and University.
  • Connect with campus partners for the functional area to communicate changes, best practices, and goals.
  • Provide leadership/supervision to a Graduate Assistant (if applicable) and departmental committee(s) applicable to the functional area.
  • Chair the Assessment Committee and supervise the Learning Community Graduate Assistant (for the Assessment and Learning Communities role).
  • Chair the Recruitment and Training committees (for the RA Recruitment and Training role).
  • Plan and lead departmental staff meetings in collaboration with the Residence Life Leadership Team and the Housing Operations team.
  • Supervise staff through the on-call process as a Leadership Team member.
  • Serve in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation at the Leadership Team level, potentially including holidays and University breaks.
  • Respond to student crises and concerns while on-call at a leadership level.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff responding to incidents in accordance with University policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
