About The Position

The Assistant Director of University Budgets & Financial Reporting supports the Director of Financial Reporting in preparing accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP), coordinating audits, and strengthening internal financial controls. It is typically a senior individual contributor or people manager role within Finance or Accounting.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements, technical accounting, and audit processes
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Workday, Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel skills
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or progress toward CPA

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred within a business discipline

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies
  • Support external and internal audits, including coordination with auditors and preparation of audit schedules
  • Analyze complex accounting issues and assist with technical accounting research
  • Review general ledger activity and account reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with financial disclosures, footnotes, and management discussion materials
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Collaborate with budgeting, FP&A, payroll, and operations teams to ensure data integrity
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership and governing bodies
  • May supervise or mentor accounting staff
