About The Position

Western New England University is accepting applications for the position of Admissions Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions. The position level offered to the selected candidate will be based on experience. The hiring range for this position is: Admissions Counselor - $50,000 Assistant Director - $55,000. The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions has general responsibility for assisting in the coordination, development and implementation of an overall recruitment plan for full-time, undergraduate students. An Admissions Counselor generally is executing a plan through outreach, travel, and application review.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Ability to sufficiently read and write the English language to understand, communicate, and correspond with other individuals.
  • Ability to understand, and to clearly and effectively communicate orally in the English language.
  • Ability to utilize a computer and appropriate computer programs.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations manually and with the use of a calculator to calculate grade point averages, maintain expense reports, and perform other required functions.
  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions within a reasonable time period.
  • Ability to work with and cooperate with the supervisor, faculty members, and other University employees to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
  • Possess knowledge of the admissions field and college operations.
  • Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs or conferences, or contained in the professional literature and governmental regulations.
  • Possess the willingness to devote sufficient time and energy to accomplish the position's responsibilities.
  • Possess sensitivity to student concerns, and tact and diplomacy in communicating with students and other publics.
  • Ability to operate an automobile; a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Ability to carry University materials to and from college fairs (including packing briefcase and boxes of materials).
  • Ability to get oneself physically to and from programs with reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction and coordination of admissions activities to obtain the desired enrollment of new students.
  • Assist in developing and implementing admissions activities.
  • Function with minimal oversight, and provide assistance to Admissions Counselors as needed.
  • Research and gather information regarding high schools and two-year Universities in assigned territory to determine visit frequency or inclusion on mailing lists.
  • Represent the University at high school visits, college fairs, and other functions, with the majority of travel in the assigned territory.
  • Maintain documentation for recruiting expenses and submit them in a timely manner.
  • Contact students regarding incomplete applications.
  • Review complete applications in an accurate, consistent, and timely manner.
  • Provide presentations regarding Western New England University, the admissions process, and other topics to various audiences on or off campus.
  • Participate in Open Houses and Saturday morning Office coverage.
  • Participate in telecounseling and achieve defined quotas.
  • Supervise Student Ambassadors and/or Student Telecounseling programs (Assistant Director role).
  • Read the Chronicle of Higher Education and other appropriate higher education publications to maintain and improve knowledge base (Assistant Director role).
  • Maintain visibility within the College Community (Assistant Director role).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
