Assistant Director of Tobacco Programs
About The Position
The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention is seeking an Assistant Director of Tobacco Programs to support the Bureau’s tobacco control strategy. The ideal candidate will support the Director in the development and execution of the program's work, including community engagement strategy, research and program evaluation, and unit administration. The program has funding for the candidate to be in the position for at least 12 months. The Tobacco Policy and Programs unit leads NYC’s tobacco control efforts to address current inequities, counter industry innovation, prevent youth use, and limit harms via policy, mass media and communications, community outreach and engagement, treatment, and evaluation.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree in public health, or a related field, with at least 5 years of work experience.
- Experience with strategic planning, program monitoring and evaluation, and public health research.
- Experience with budgets, contracts, and fundraising.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with community partners, government agencies and programs, and academic partners.
- Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing reports and presentations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience interpreting and communicating neighborhood health data is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist with development and execution of a comprehensive equity-based tobacco control strategy, including development of plans and protocol, tracking, and aligning with other agency planning processes.
- Oversee portfolio of community engagement strategy; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with educational, research, governmental, and other health and welfare offices concerned with the scope, impact, and effectiveness of programs.
- Support and inform program’s research and evaluation activities, including program evaluation, surveillance activities, community input processes, manuscript development, as well as liaising with Bureau Research & Evaluation unit.
- Responsibility for financial administration, including allocation of funds, monitoring, evaluation and contract compliance, as well as supporting fundraising activities for the unit.
- Oversee planning and coordination of communications activities, including social and digital media content and publications development process.
- Support management, hiring, and onboarding of staff.
