About The Position

The Assistant Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs will oversee research compliance and sponsored programs administration for Butler University. This includes IRB, IACUC, IBC, and FCOI as well as assisting the OSP director, faculty, and staff in the preparation, review, and submission of proposals for contracts or grants to external partners. The role requires in-depth knowledge about research in higher education as well as maintaining knowledge of federal and state laws. This position contributes to Butler's objectives by ensuring research policy and laws are followed by all individuals taking part in externally funded research at Butler. Oversees responsible conduct of research training and other activities that promote integrity in research and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Assists in developing and implementing OSP strategic plans and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of knowledge of and experience with reviewing and interpreting grant contracts, agreements, and related legal documents
  • In-depth knowledge of research compliance
  • Strong interpersonal and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated
  • Ability to interact well with diverse students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external constituencies
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency; familiarity with or agility with learning relevant databases and specialty software (SalesForce)
  • A keen desire to support the work of the University in the area of research integrity
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with individuals at various levels throughout the institution to obtain needed information, discuss sensitive information, and determine workable solutions to meet applicable policies and protect the institution in its research mission
  • Ability to understand, apply, and communicate policies, laws, and regulations
  • Exceptional analytical and project management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years working in research compliance or sponsored programs administration
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and/or Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and manage an efficient, effective, and compliant approach to research compliance and integrity
  • Assist in developing streamlined approach to online grants management and grant seeking; develop and administer standard operating procedures and policies related to OSP
  • Establish effective processes for coordinating with the Office of General Counsel on grant contracts, agreements, and other sponsored program matters requiring legal review.
