About The Position

The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) within the Division of Student Affairs strives to increase access and retention for students with permanent and temporary disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment in all aspects of campus life. The program acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations mandating equal opportunity and access for person with disabilities. Our office provides co-curricular and academically related services which empower students with disabilities to achieve academic and personal self-determination. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Testing (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
  • General knowledge of the policies, practices, and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • General knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management.
  • General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
  • Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Ability to advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide full oversight and coordination of the administration of exam accommodations through proctoring services for students enrolled at CSUF who have a qualified disability.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Disability Support Services (DSS) students, staff, faculty, and campus partners in providing complex exam accommodations and support for students who will be proctored.
  • Lead and supervise the Testing team of one Student Services Professional II, one Administrative Analyst/Specialist, and 10-15 student assistants, including oversight of all DSS exam proctoring and administration from 8:00 am-10:00 pm.
  • Oversee daily tasks of testing student assistants with exam proctoring, exam scheduling, exam delivery, and overall customer service to DSS students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ensure communication standards with the Testing Team and Associate Director of Operations, including oversight of the DSS Testing email, student or faculty concerns, and communication with other DSS staff.
  • Provide leadership and solutions to problems that arise and serve as the first level supervisor when students or faculty ask to speak with a supervisor regarding the proctoring or administration of exams in DSS.
  • Consult with faculty regarding exam details that they are proctoring in the classroom or online, ensuring exams are fully accessible and students are provided with all accommodations.
  • Advise faculty to ensure that online exams have the correct accommodated time in Canvas and provide support for changing exam times within their Canvas courses for individual students.
  • Provide direct advisement to students to troubleshoot scheduling concerns, discuss exam options, and problem solve exam issues between faculty and students.
  • Provide recommendations on improving the quality and excellence of our service to students and create/update department policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Oversee efforts to ensure exam integrity, video monitoring system within DSS, submitting incident reports, and working in collaboration with Student Conduct.
  • Maintain working knowledge and understanding of all California State University (CSU) systemwide policies, CSUF campus policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Oversee and advise on proctoring coordination for thousands of accommodated exams each semester by confirming accessibility and implementation of accommodations of all exams, ensuring faculty provide exams in a timely manner and troubleshooting exam software issues, space and scheduling concerns, and meeting the needs of students within a high volume and paced environment.
  • Provide advising to students regarding their accommodation and implementing the recommendation.
  • Consult with faculty regarding exam details that they are proctoring in the classroom or online, ensuring exams are fully accessible and students are provided with all accommodations.
  • Advise faculty to ensure that online exams have the correct accommodated time in Canvas, and provide support for changing exam times within their Canvas courses for individual students.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision for all Testing Staff, including one SSP II, one AA/S, and Student Assistants.
  • Develop and facilitate weekly and monthly trainings and continued professional development opportunities for staff and student assistants.
  • Coordinate work schedules, work coverage, and monitor attendance of testing student assistants.
  • Oversee maintenance, set up, and revisions to ClockWork and exam system software needed for student testing.
  • Coordinate needed assistive technology and alternative exam formats with Assistive Technology Coordinator and Accessible Instructional Materials Specialist for exams.
  • Work with IT and CW Support to resolve issues and implement new ideas.
