About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Technical Services to help lead laboratory, component, and distribution operations in a regulated blood center environment. This role supports the Technical Services Director and helps ensure compliance with FDA, AABB, and state regulations while maintaining safe blood products for patients and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science OR Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program with additional Medical Technologist certification OR Equivalent experience with Medical Technologist certification
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical and employee issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance for blood donor centers
  • Ability to train, evaluate, and support staff development

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of Medical Technologist experience
  • Background in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology preferred
  • 1–3 years of supervisory experience in a blood center or diagnostic laboratory
  • Medical Technologist certification through ASCP or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support daily oversight of laboratory, component, and distribution operations
  • Serve in place of the Technical Services Director when needed
  • Perform batch release functions for donor units prior to labeling
  • Supervise staff scheduling and ensure adequate coverage across shifts
  • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, validations, and occurrence tracking
  • Support staff training, competency assessments, and performance oversight
  • Assist with supply inventory, billing records, equipment, and departmental budget management
  • Promote strong teamwork and positive customer and employee relations
