About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Sports Performance, the Assistant Director of Sports Performance collaborates daily with sports performance, sports medicine, and coaching staff. The role supports the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs; assists in the utilization and implementation of sport-science technologies and research; and helps manage data collection, entry, and monitoring. Ideally, the successful candidate would begin as early as June 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (5) years of full-time experience at the high-school, college, or professional level.
  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Applied research experience (e.g., university setting)
  • NSCA-CPSS and CSCS, AND/OR SCCC Certification by the CSCCa OR PES Advanced Certification by the NASM.
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, Tableau, SQL, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Experience in utilizing sports science platforms such as Force Plate, Velocity-Based Training, and GPS.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Highly motivated, positive energy individual with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming for athletes through multiple age ranges and training levels.
  • Proven ability in the following areas: strength training, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, speed training, energy system development, flexibility, recovery, injury prevention methodologies, nutrition, performance sciences, and analytics.
  • Committed to personal and professional development.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage many projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Performance in ensuring a unified approach to athletic development and sports performance methodologies across departments.
  • Deliver dynamic, high-performance strategies and innovations to foster a competitive, nurturing training environment for athlete and coach success.
  • Create a positive culture of physical and mental well-being for all student-athletes.
  • Lead and monitor the design and implementation of strength-training and conditioning programs for in-season, off-season, and pre-season across all school-sanctioned athletic programs, in a manner that reflects research-driven practice.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs), in collaboration with sport coaches and other IST performance disciplines, and oversee the processing and communication of data (i.e., collection, upload/entry, filtering, modeling, interpretation, and reporting).
  • Utilize applied science technologies for ongoing assessment and analysis of identified key performance indicators for athletic performance (e.g., Force Plate, Velocity Based Training, GPS, speed development, power assessment, etc.).
  • Assist with research and development initiatives and continue to advance working applications and methodologies.
  • Assist in developing and disseminating continuing education opportunities for staff related to sport science literature to support department initiatives.
  • Work in collaboration with the sports medicine staff on the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes, as well as on return-to-play and recovery protocols.
  • Facilitate collaboration among sport coaches, sports medicine, and sports performance.
  • Educate and counsel the student-athlete regarding strategies to improve performance and wellness by developing and leading educational initiatives within the athletic department.
  • Educate and enforce weight room rules, safety procedures, and proper training techniques.
  • Lead scheduling and weight room space management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
