About The Position

An established full-service hotel and event destination in Southern California is seeking to identify an experienced Assistant Director of Sales. This position will work closely with the Director of Sales to drive revenue across guest rooms, group business, meetings, catering, and events while helping lead and develop the hotel’s sales team. This is an excellent opportunity for a high-performing hotel sales professional ready to expand their leadership responsibilities and continue progressing toward a Director of Sales role. The Assistant Director of Sales will manage key accounts and market segments, develop new business, support commercial strategy, and remain actively involved in driving revenue and strengthening client relationships.

Requirements

  • Progressive hotel sales experience within a full-service, convention, conference, resort, or event-driven property
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Director of Sales, Associate Director of Sales, Senior Sales Manager, or similar hotel sales leader
  • Demonstrated success developing group, corporate, association, government, catering, or event business
  • Strong prospecting, account management, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Experience developing sales plans, managing pipelines, forecasting revenue, and monitoring account production
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations, contracts, revenue strategy, and the group sales process
  • Ability to coach and develop sales professionals while remaining personally engaged in business development
  • Strong analytical, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated, results-driven leadership style with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to remain organized and solutions-focused in a fast-paced hotel environment
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or client events as business needs require

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Sales in executing the hotel’s overall sales strategy and leading daily department operations
  • Drive revenue across group rooms, corporate accounts, meetings, catering, and events
  • Develop and execute sales plans for assigned market segments
  • Prospect and secure new business through outside sales calls, networking, referrals, trade shows, and industry events
  • Build and maintain relationships with key accounts, existing clients, community partners, and third-party intermediaries
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline aligned with short- and long-term revenue goals
  • Prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, conduct site tours, and close business
  • Monitor account production, booking trends, competitor activity, and changing market conditions
  • Partner with Revenue Management and hotel leadership to maximize occupancy, ADR, catering revenue, and overall profitability
  • Participate in forecasting, budgeting, business reviews, and sales strategy meetings
  • Coach, train, and support the development of sales managers and team members
  • Collaborate with Catering and Event Management to ensure a seamless transition from sales through event execution
  • Maintain strong communication with Food & Beverage, Front Office, Reservations, and other operational departments
  • Prepare sales reports, forecasts, presentations, and business updates for hotel leadership
  • Represent the hotel within local business, hospitality, tourism, and community organizations
  • Act on behalf of the Director of Sales when needed
