The Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions is a member of the School of Social Work’s Office of Academic and Student Affairs’ department and serves as an integral part of the Recruitment, Admissions, and Financial Aid (RAFA) team. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Recruitment, Admissions, and Financial Aid. The School offers a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) to graduate students across two degree pathways, online and on-the-ground, and is committed to a ‘Road to 1,000 Students’ to grow enrollment, build a pipeline of skilled social workers in the State of North Carolina, invest in student success programming, elevate research, and maintain excellence as a top-ranked School of Social Work. This position is critical to meeting enrollment goals for both on-campus and online programs. The position assists in developing and implementing data-informed strategies that strengthen recruitment outreach, bolster applicant yield, and enhance engagement with prospective and newly admitted students from initial inquiry through enrollment. The Assistant Director helps coordinate activities across the full prospect-to-enroll funnel, including awareness, inquiry, application, admission, and confirmation stages. Throughout these activities, the role ensures that prospective and admitted students receive timely, accurate, and welcoming information as they navigate the enrollment process. The position supports the organization and operation of application review processes, including reviewer preparation, timelines, evaluation procedures, and decision workflows as part of the Admissions Committee. The Assistant Director helps ensure that admissions practices remain aligned with principles of equity, holistic review, and School and University policies. The role collaborates with the School’s External Affairs partners to keep recruitment-related materials accurate, accessible, and current, such as web content and digital or print outreach pieces, while ensuring that updates reflect the School’s mission and values. Effective recruitment outreach is essential for engaging prospective students, elevating the visibility of the School, and clearly communicating the strengths of academic programs. The Assistant Director also assists with several key RAFA functions, including the coordination of statewide recruitment events and participation in regional and national admissions events. This position requires in-state travel as well as occasional out-of-state travel to represent the School, build partnerships, and connect with prospective students across diverse geographic areas. Through close collaboration with RAFA colleagues and campus partners, this position contributes to responsive, student-centered recruitment and admissions practices while providing cross-coverage during peak periods. This work directly supports the School’s commitment to inclusive outreach, accessible pathways, and strong applicant pools across all academic programs.
