About The Position

The Assistant Director for Plant Administration & Custodial Services is responsible for the leadership, management, and coordination of the University’s Custodial Services and administrative operations within the Physical Plant. This position ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained campus environment while overseeing office functions that support efficient departmental operations. The role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to balance field operations with administrative oversight. This position will also serve as the liaison for the third-party custodial provider on campus. The position provides confidential, administrative support to the Director of Facilities and Plant Operations. This position will coordinate all areas of the Physical Plant office, including the warehouse. The position requires the ability to deal with the public, outside vendors, and University department and employees. This person will assist in oversight of the TMA System and all operations associated with the TMA system. Make recommendations and implements procedures to improve operations and keep office functions operating smoothly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of Physical Plant administrative experience in plant operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage all custodial operations across campus facilities.
  • Develop and implement cleaning standards, schedules, and quality assurance checks.
  • Ensure all buildings are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
  • Coordinate special events, emergency cleanups, and staff for sporting events.
  • Monitor and evaluate custodial performance and productivity.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise custodian manager and staff.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discipline employees as needed.
  • Help develop work schedules and staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Manage administrative functions within the Physical Plant office.
  • Oversee timesheet approvals, payroll coordination, and personnel documentation.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping for maintenance activities, work orders, and compliance documentation.
  • Supervise administrative support staff.
  • Coordinate internal communication and documentation processes.
  • Keep accurate budget tracking records.
  • Support campus events and facility needs.
  • Participate in long-term planning for campus facilities and services.
  • Oversee all aspects of the warehouse operations.
  • Assist with oversight of the TMA system, closing work orders and ensuring work is complete.
  • Update task descriptions, building room records, material records, fuel and oil records, account records and generator reports.
  • Coordinate work with other Physical Plant departments and campus departments.
  • Respond to emergencies, including weather-related or facility issues.
