About The Position

The Assistant Director of People + Culture supports the Director of People + Culture in leading the property’s people strategy and day-to-day People + Culture operations. This role oversees employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, learning and development, engagement, and workforce planning while fostering a service culture aligned with the standards of a luxury hotel. The position partners closely with hotel leaders to develop and evaluate policies, programs, and workforce practices that support business goals, associate well-being, internal mobility, and an exceptional guest experience.

Requirements

A professional demeanor suitable for a luxury environment.
At least five years of progressive People + Culture or Human Resources experience, including leadership responsibility in a luxury, full-service, or similarly complex hospitality environment; hotel operations experience is preferred.
Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain strict confidentiality, manage competing priorities, communicate effectively with associates and leaders at all levels, and remain visible and responsive in a fast-paced, twenty-four-hour hotel operation.
Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now software.
Proficiency in English is required, with Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess learning needs and coordinate leadership development, compliance training, service-culture education, and career-development programs; monitor completion and effectiveness and coach leaders on applying learning in daily operations.
Coach leaders on consistent performance management, progressive discipline, accommodation discussions, and employment decisions, ensuring actions are timely, well documented, aligned with company policy, and reviewed with appropriate stakeholders.
Collaborate with hiring managers to assess staffing needs, maintain accurate requisitions, deliver an efficient and hospitality-focused candidate experience, facilitate compliant selection and pre-employment processes, coordinate onboarding, and monitor recruiting and retention outcomes for skilled and diverse talent.
Lead and support fair, timely, and well-documented workplace investigations; identify trends and root causes; recommend appropriate resolutions; and partner with leaders on performance improvement plans and follow-up actions.
Manage compliance responsibilities including leaves of absence, such as FMLA; workplace accommodations; workers’ compensation; employment authorization; unemployment claims; compensation surveys; required annual reporting; personnel-record retention; HR-system data integrity; and preparation for internal or external audits.
Oversee payroll and benefits administration, including payroll review and reconciliation, timekeeping compliance, enrollment support, associate inquiries, coordination with vendors and shared-service partners, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
Partner with property leaders on workforce planning, organizational structure, succession planning, high-potential talent identification, internal mobility, and retention strategies for critical and hard-to-fill roles.
Partner with the People + Culture Manager on associate engagement, communication, recognition, and well-being initiatives; review feedback and survey results; identify trends; and partner with leaders on action plans that strengthen belonging, retention, and the associate experience.
Prepare and analyze People + Culture metrics, including turnover, vacancies, time to fill, attendance, labor trends, engagement, and compliance indicators; communicate findings and recommended actions to hotel leadership.
Serve as the day-to-day leader of the People + Culture department in the Director’s absence, supervise and develop department associates, maintain consistent service and response standards, and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of People + Culture.
Support compensation administration by reviewing job classifications, pay practices, promotions, transfers, and market data; maintain position control and partner with leaders to promote internal equity and alignment with approved budgets.
