About The Position

The overall purpose of this job is the responsibility of regular, daily maintenance, oversight and management of pool chemicals and to provide consistent and effective supervision to lifeguards and student employees, including hiring, training, and scheduling. Also, performs regular (daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly) assessments on fitness equipment to ensure industry safety standards. Recommend replacement of fitness machines and equipment when necessary. The incumbent will provide recommendations regarding the promotion, transfer, demotion or termination of student staff. Assist other full-time Campus Recreation staff in the daily operation of the Burnett Recreation Center and programs offered to students and members. Provide positive customer service through direct interaction, and occasional tours of the facility, and involvement with the students, Alumni, and guests of the MBRC and Tennessee Tech University. Daily oversight of the cleanliness of building, communicating with the custodial staff when issues need to be addressed. Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field with four years of related professional experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience managing a recreation facility.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership and excellent customer service at all times as this is a high traffic facility used for recruitment of future students, many leadership retreats, board meetings, senior salute, etc.
  • Provide consistent daily supervision and work direction to work study, scholarship, lifeguards and hourly student employees.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and reviewing student workers.
  • Daily interaction with non-employee students, alumni and retiree members, and guests of Campus Recreation and Tennessee Tech University.
  • A consistent presence in the building throughout the day to ensure participants use the building in compliance with Campus Recreation's policies and procedures and immediately address non-compliance.
  • Monitor and observe student worker performance during the shifts, ensuring each area is sufficiently staffed, work at the front desk periodically and during peak times to address access issues and perform transactions as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of the facility for special events and programs.
  • Assist with updating facility and programming information on digital displays and the Tennessee Tech Campus Recreation website.
  • Process electronic work orders with the Facilities department to request building repair and maintenance.
  • Exhibit professional behavior in every interaction.
  • Demonstrates strong time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
