About The Position

NaphCare is hiring an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join their team of medical professionals in Atmore, Alabama. This role involves managing all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility. The ADON will work with the Director of Nursing, correctional staff, and other medical professionals to provide quality care, manage the nursing team, and ensure compliance with standards and regulations. This posting is open exclusively to current AL DOC incumbent employees.

Requirements

  • Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Alabama.
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
  • Two years of clinical and progressive management experience providing comprehensive medical, dental, and mental healthcare services within a correctional healthcare or acute care setting.
  • Ability to manage complex staffing matrices and clinical supplies.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience managing and training medical staff.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff and ensures policies and procedures are followed in the mission to provide quality care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of the patient population.
  • Collaborates with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing in managing nursing staff, monitoring staffing needs, hiring and training new staff, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Effectively communicates with healthcare staff and correctional staff to coordinate patient care with providers outside of the facility.
  • Monitors compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards.
  • Creates and manages staffing schedules to ensure adequate nursing coverage for all shifts.
  • Ensures all health care related equipment and supplies, including pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications, are appropriately stocked and available at all times.
  • Maintains current and accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Develops staff and conducts in-service training for new and current staff.
  • Conducts daily clinical rounds to all designated areas of responsibility to observe and review documentation, orders, and patient care plans, ensuring objectives are understood and practiced by the nursing staff.
  • Assists in daily triage/sick call, minor medical/surgical procedures, and patient assessments.
  • Participates in all monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as assigned and required in accordance with contract compliance.
  • Mitigates risks by proactively addressing potential hazards, including dangerous work conditions, health and safety concerns, and reporting issues to company leadership and facility management.
