About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is accountable and responsible, under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON), for managing and guiding all the activities of the facility including, but not limited to, the staff, environment and patients. The ADON demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation certificate from an accredited school of nursing (RN)
  • Current Mississippi RN license
  • ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications
  • Moderate Sedation certifications
  • Strong discretion and ability to handle confidential information
  • Composure in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies
  • Dependable, punctual, and highly detail‑oriented
  • Strong multitasking and independent‑work capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Accurate documentation skills
  • Ability to follow established workflows consistently
  • Knowledge of surgery department procedures, infection control practices and emergency response protocols
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, typically 8 to12 hours per day
  • Perform routine physical movements such as bending, reaching, lifting, and turning
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull items 50 pounds or more using proper body mechanics
  • Use of both hands and feet with reliable fine motor skills and finger dexterity
  • Clear verbal communication, active listening, and sufficient visual acuity for safe patient care
  • Frequent communication with patients, staff, and providers in person and by phone

Responsibilities
