The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible and accountable for the overall health status of the residents, including assessment, evaluation, plan of care, monitoring, and reporting changes to the physician and family. The RN may delegate selected nursing activities to other health care workers but retains accountability and responsibility for the overall nursing care. This role involves supervising staff, continuously evaluating resident care needs, and implementing the plan of care through direct care or supervision of LPNs, CNAs, and/or Nursing Coordinators. The ADON will also act as the Director of Nursing (DON) when the DON is unavailable and may be expected to work an on-call rotation. Key responsibilities include ensuring resident safety, developing and evaluating care plans, documenting charting, administering medications and treatments, managing narcotic records, delegating tasks, handling staff discipline and resident/family complaints, reporting accidents and incidents, complying with Residents' Rights, assisting with staffing and scheduling, and ensuring adherence to facility policies and procedures.
