Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Previous nursing leadership, management, or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards of nursing practice.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation systems is preferred.
  • The ability to effectively lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and foster a positive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the leadership, supervision, and daily operations of the nursing department.
  • Conduct daily clinical rounds to monitor resident care, assess nursing practices, and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, mentor, and evaluate nursing team members.
  • Coordinate orientation programs, staff education, and ongoing in-service training while maintaining accurate education records.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and resident-centered work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company regulations governing long-term care.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives to continuously improve clinical outcomes.
  • Support and oversee the Infection Prevention and Control Program, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Foster a culture of safety by promoting compliance with workplace safety standards, including fire and back safety.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacies, laboratory services, therapy providers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated resident care.
  • Build strong relationships with residents, families, staff, physicians, and visitors through exceptional customer service and professional communication.
  • Assist with implementing new clinical programs, policies, and best practices.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, resident concerns, and abuse or neglect allegations, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and follow-up in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure required notifications are made to physicians, families, regulatory agencies, and facility leadership.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing with employee performance management, coaching, and annual evaluations.
  • Help develop staffing plans and schedules to maintain safe, effective 24-hour nursing coverage.
