About The Position

Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of nursing services, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the facility. This role involves direct management of staff, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. The Assistant Director of Nursing also oversees monthly risk management, quality improvement (CQI), and infection control meetings, documentation, and in-services. They are responsible for determining staffing needs, rotating on-call schedules, filling in as a floor nurse when needed, and making daily rounds to ensure nursing staff perform their duties according to acceptable standards. Additionally, this position assists in developing in-service training programs to meet continuing education requirements and manages Minimum Data Set (MDS) reports in compliance with state regulations. The role serves as a positive role model and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing with current RN licensure
  • Three years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Additional certificates/licenses as required by the state
  • Strong communication skills with ability to build rapport with others
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises assigned staff including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training.
  • Makes decisions on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.
  • Resolves employee problems within position responsibilities.
  • Directly manage all monthly risk management, quality improvement (CQI), and infection control meetings, documentation, and in-services for facility.
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, training, and ongoing support; resolve employee relations issues as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in determining the staffing needs of the nursing services department.
  • Responsible for rotating all on-call schedules and to fill in as floor nurse as needed.
  • Make daily rounds of the nursing service departments to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; report any findings to Director of Nursing.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in the development of in-service training programs for the nursing staff.
  • Ensure that training programs meet the continuing education requirements which allow licensed personnel to keep their licenses in an active status.
  • Manage all Minimum Data Set (MDS) reports in compliance with state regulations, as needed.
  • Serve as a positive role model for all staff, service providers, and the community at large.
  • Performs other related duties and activities as required.
