About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to help lead our Skilled Nursing Facility. This position is ideal for a nurse leader who enjoys being actively involved in resident care, staff development, clinical operations, and day-to-day nursing supervision. As a smaller facility, our leadership team works closely together and remains engaged in daily operations. The ADON serves as a key member of the nursing leadership team and is expected to provide hands-on support, including functioning as the Nursing Supervisor to ensure high-quality resident care and regulatory compliance. Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services throughout the facility. The ADON helps ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of clinical excellence, teamwork, and resident-centered care. This position includes administrative responsibilities as well as direct operational support and may require working as the nursing supervisor, participating in the management on-call rotation, and assisting with staffing coverage during periods of need.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or post-acute care.
  • Knowledge of CMS regulations, PA Department of Health requirements, infection control, and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing with the overall operation of the Nursing Department.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS and Pennsylvania Department of Health requirements.
  • Monitor resident care practices to ensure quality outcomes and resident safety.
  • Participate in clinical rounds, care plan review, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities.
  • Assist with infection prevention, risk management, and clinical audits.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and resident concerns and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide supervision and support to RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention initiatives.
  • Conduct coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Promote staff engagement and accountability through regular communication and leadership presence.
  • Coordinate and support ongoing education and competency programs.
  • Serve as Nursing Supervisor when assigned or when operational needs require.
  • Assist with scheduling and staffing coordination to maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies and operational issues as needed.
  • Participate in weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary departments to ensure seamless resident care and services.
  • Support survey readiness efforts and participate in survey activities.
  • Assist with audits, monitoring systems, and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
