The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible and accountable for the overall health status of the residents, including assessment, evaluation, plan of care, monitoring, and reporting changes to the physician and family. The RN/LPN may delegate selected nursing activities to other health care workers but retains accountability and responsibility for the overall nursing care. This role involves supervising staff, continuously evaluating resident care needs, and implementing the plan of care through direct care or supervision of the LPN, CNA, and/or Nursing Coordinator. The ADON will also act as the Director of Nursing (DON) when the DON is unavailable and may be required to work an on-call rotation. Ensuring resident safety is paramount in all duties. Responsibilities include developing and evaluating the plan of care, communicating it to staff, residents, and families, and accurately recording necessary charting entries on the computer. The ADON must notify physicians and families of changes in resident's condition, document/transcribe information accurately, and implement resident care as ordered by the provider, including administering medications and treatments. Maintaining accurate narcotic records and reporting discrepancies to the supervisor is crucial. The role involves managing and delegating appropriately, including disciplining staff and handling complaints from residents and their families. Reporting all accidents and incidents appropriately and complying with Residents' Rights rules are essential. In situations of short staffing, the ADON may be expected to take over the med cart and treatment cart. Promoting independence and choices, understanding and communicating appropriately with the cognitively impaired, and ensuring residents are free from abuse, mistreatment, and neglect are key aspects of the role. The ADON will advocate for the well-being of each resident and manage the MBH nursing and Basic Care schedule. This includes ensuring adequate staffing, obtaining replacement staff, and making decisions regarding overtime and changes in staff assignments to best meet residents' needs. Adherence to established Universal Precautions, Infection Control, Isolation, Fire, Safety, Sanitation, and other facility policies and procedures is required. The ADON must attend and participate in orientation, training, mandatory education, in-services, staff meetings, and education courses to further improve knowledge and skills. Maintaining Resident and Patient Confidentiality and treating Residents, Visitors, and Co-workers with kindness, dignity, and respect at all times are expected. Promoting teamwork, encouraging others, and assisting with training new co-workers are also part of the role. A positive attitude, willingness to accept change, adherence to facility rules and job assignments, acceptance of suggestions for work improvement, performing well with minimum supervision, cooperation with supervisors, and showing respect are essential. Punctuality, timely notice of absences, taking allowed breaks, and willingly coming in when called are required. Following the company dress code is also mandatory.
