About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Infection Prevention (IP) is responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is provided to residents by adhering to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing long-term care and assisted living facilities. Additionally, the ADON/IP is responsible for the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP), aimed at creating a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and preventing the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.

  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be a graduate of an approved Registered Nurse program.
  • Must maintain a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
  • Must have, as a minimum, one (1) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Determine the staffing needs and recommend the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed.
  • Assist in calculating the number of direct nursing personnel care on duty each shift.
  • Ensure that all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program.
  • Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours.
  • Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments.
  • Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel.
  • Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission.
  • Develop a written plan of care for each resident that identifies problems/needs, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
  • Prepare and plan the nursing service department's budget and submit to the Administrator.
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in nursing service meetings.
  • Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and directs the facility's infection prevention and control program in accordance with current company policies and procedures, ensuring that facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection prevention and control.
  • Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies as requested.
  • Monitors infection prevention and control practices and procedures to ensure that all personnel are implementing standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Makes rounds of nursing units for the purpose of case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures, and supervision of isolation precautions/practices.
  • Reviews and analyzes infectious disease laboratory reports and consults with DON to assure that aseptic techniques are implemented.
  • Ensures that all personnel follow established procedures for disposal of infective and contaminated materials.
