About The Position

This position serves as the primary backup for the Director of Maintenance, a role required by FAA Part 119 regulations. The Assistant Director of Maintenance is responsible for planning and utilizing resources to meet operational and departmental goals, ensuring efficient scheduling and productivity. This role involves overseeing Line and Hangar Maintenance Operations to ensure compliance with FAA, OSHA, and EPA regulations, as well as company policies. The position also represents the company in union grievance proceedings, ensures accurate record-keeping, and provides leadership for continuous improvement within the maintenance organization. Collaboration with the Maintenance Leadership Team is key to increasing fleet performance and operational productivity. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and other software are required for reporting and analysis. The role also involves participating in operational performance meetings and managing assigned budgetary responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Hold a mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings.
  • Have at least 1 year experience in a position responsible for returning airplanes to service.
  • Have at least 1 year experience in a supervisory capacity maintaining the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses.
  • Have 3 years experience within the past 6 years in maintaining large airplanes with 10 or more passenger seats, including at the time of appointment as Director of Maintenance, experience in maintaining the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses.
  • Have 3 years experience within the past 6 years in repairing airplanes in a certificated airframe repair station that is rated to maintain airplanes in the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses.
  • High level of judgment to ensure compliance with appropriate regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English.
  • Frequent telephone and personal contact with co-workers and subordinates.
  • Frequent telephone and personal contact with union officials, regulators, manufacturers, outside service providers, and others.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license required.
  • Five to seven years aircraft maintenance management experience in FAR Part 121 Air Carrier operations, preferably in a union environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills, out-of-box thinking, persistence and a tenacity in following up on tasks and ensuring they are completed within the timeframe required.
  • Ability to create, track and maintain a project plan.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership, commitment and the promotion of a safe and secure operating environment as a core value of the maintenance organization.
  • Plans and utilizes resources to meet operational and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensures efficient scheduling and use of assigned resources to provide maximum, effective productivity.
  • Collaboration with the Maintenance Leadership team to ensure optimal productivity of manpower is achieved and adjusts the manpower as necessary.
  • Oversees and manages Line and Hangar Maintenance Operations to ensure that all maintenance facilities are operated in compliance with FAA, OSHA and EPA regulations and Company policies and procedures.
  • Represents Company in union grievance proceedings.
  • Ensures that complete and accurate records are maintained.
  • Responsible for providing leadership to direct staff to ensure the various teams incorporate continuous improvement methods to efficiently support maintenance production and the daily operation.
  • Collaboration with the Maintenance Leadership Team to identify and implement initiations to increase fleet performance.
  • Advanced skills are required to use Microsoft Office applications and other software to create various reports and analysis relating to maintenance and engineering procedures, plans, and forecasts.
  • Team member in operational performance meetings with various stakeholders providing proactive and follow up data regarding maintenance’s performance and initiatives.
  • Administers and controls assigned budgetary responsibilities and prepares monthly budget variance reports.
  • Attendance is considered an essential responsibility.
