This role involves leadership in shaping library services and community impact, specifically guiding Adult Services, Teen Services, Kids & Family, DEI, and Library to You core services. The Assistant Director will bring vision, strategy, and purpose to these areas, with a strong emphasis on demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through implementation and action. As one of three key leaders reporting to the Chief Libraries & Inclusion Officer, this position influences system-wide priorities, inspires teams, and drives inclusive, responsive services. The Division of Libraries & Inclusion aims to enrich lives and strengthen the community through equitable access to information, experiences, and opportunities, creating a welcoming space for connection, learning, discovery, and creation. The Assistant Director is accountable for a high-quality customer experience across all service channels (phone, in-person, digital) and will occasionally travel to JCPL locations. This role also directs the implementation of strategic library service initiatives, manages operational details supporting service and staffing models, oversees access to physical and digital collections, and fosters community partnerships through outreach. The Assistant Director holds decision-making authority for operational initiatives within Libraries & Inclusion.
