About The Position

The Assistant Director of Information Technology is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting and advancing the organization’s technology infrastructure in alignment with the nonprofit’s mission and strategic goals. This position combines technical expertise, project management, and strong communication skills to ensure reliable, secure, and effective IT services across the organization. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment and can translate technology into practical solutions that support staff and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in information technology, including infrastructure support
  • Demonstrated experience managing IT projects
  • Strong working knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud services, and cybersecurity fundamentals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to take direction, work independently and as a team and take initiative in a dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • IT Infrastructure & Technical Operations Provide hands-on administration and operational oversight of on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, network devices, endpoints, and mission-critical applications
  • Ensure high availability and performance through proactive monitoring, patching, capacity planning, backup management, and regular testing of disaster recovery and business continuity procedures
  • Diagnose, escalate, and resolve complex Tier 2/3 infrastructure, network, and application issues, minimizing downtime and operational impact
  • Implement, maintain, and enforce cybersecurity controls and best practices, including access management, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and incident response, to safeguard organizational data and systems
  • Project Management & Continuous Improvement Plan, lead, and execute IT projects that support organizational growth and efficiency
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and deliverables; manage risks and dependencies
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and service delivery
  • Leadership & Collaboration Support day-to-day IT operations and help guide IT staff and vendors
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Assist with technology budgeting, asset management, and vendor relationships
  • Foster a service-oriented culture focused on supporting staff and programs
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement Serve as a key liaison between IT, HR, leadership, and end users
  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Provide regular updates, recommendations, and reports to the Vice President
  • Support staff training and change management initiatives
